I live in Paris and first met Mike nearly 2 years ago, with my friend Mohammed.
I was amazed to see a westerner of such a high level in chinese martial arts and told to myself : “Wouaouh ! At least we have a great master in Europe!”
Indeed, I felt he was like a chinese master in his way of living and teaching his martial arts, and like teenage newyorker in having fun ,doing barbecues, watching horror movies… He had a very strong and uncommon personnality, a big heart, which made him really special. And he was always going 110 %.
We came to practice with him several weekends within a year, which were always great, passionnate and fun. I had not visited him since the last training camp in Belgium for personal reasons, but I always had him in a spot of my mind, thinking “ok, if I can not visit Mike during one or two years, it will be for the year after. Not a problem.”
Like everyone I thaught he would be around again for decades… What shall I think of this last lesson ?
Anyway Mike, I feel honored and very lucky to have met you. Very few people will ever attain your level of achievement in martial arts. And thank you for the effort you made to introduce other teachers to your students. Thanks to this, even without you physically present, the chain of transmission remains.
Rest In Peace and see you next time !
